Mwahahaha!

"Sir, ano ho ba talaga yang pilipik na sinasabi niyo?"

"Pilipik ba, pild epik transistor. Kanang peet."

"Ahhh... Field Effect. Oooookkkk... (sarcasm ends here)"

Yun naman pala eh. FET lang naman pala eh.

Banaag Diwa

Our neighbor office, the Atenews, has finally released this year's edition of Banaag Diwa. Banaag Diwa is a compilation of literary works written by students, faculty and staff of the Ateneo de Davao University Community. This year's issue features 126 pages of different works written in Filipino, English and Bisaya.

I have listed several things which I think are special about this book

  • The cover does not look cheap. They used a matted paper for the cover.
  • The design is good. It does not look cheap either
  • It's FREE. (Well, actually it's not coz it's included in out tuition) I love freebies
  • This would be the last issue that I would get since I would be leaving the university on March (hopefully)
  • The paper used for the pages are glossy. I guess it is c2s, if I remember it right. (The paper used before are cheaper in quality)
  • They included photos. If only I have known that they accept photography works for this issue, I should have submitted some of my shots. (I hate it coz every spread has a Pidor photo on it. Not bias eh?)
  • Pwindang, my friend, has published her compositions in this issue.
  • My classmate ayachan also published her works here.
  • My co-Kalasag Alfredo published his "Man on an orange post"
  • Most of the graphic artists in this issue are from my batch (engineering)
  • I was one of the few who first grabbed a copy of this year's issue
I felt bad for Henelsie who was one of those people who kept on asking me of the book's release. Her poem, which she won't tell me, got positive responses from her Palanca Awardee critiques. It was a loss for Atenews that they have not published my friend's composition. (though I have not seen it yet). It's their loss nelsie (and yours too! *giggle*).

Eight things about me

Anito Kid and Kuya Drew tagged me on the meme wherein I have to reveal 8 secrets about me.

First, here are the rules:

  • Each player must post these rules first.
  • Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
  • People who are tagged need to write on their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
  • At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.

Ok, now brace yourselves!!
  1. I'm acrophobic. I have a huge fear of heights. I missed the Space Shuttle in Enchanted Kingdom several times. Everytime my friends ask and invite me, I usually decline (and find a lame excuse that would buy them).

  2. I fancy dark chocolates. I love the bitter taste of the chocolate. I feel like dark chocolates are more 'genuine' compared to ordinary chocs.

  3. I have a weird breathing disorder. I dunno if it's bad or if there's something wrong with it but it's involuntary. My friends noticed that whenever I'm silent, I hold my breathe (which I don't notice) for a second before releasing it.

  4. I don't play basketball. I got discouraged on my basketball skills when I was a kid. My playmates are all better than me in this game. So I stopped playing basketball.

  5. I'm tactless. I say things before thinking.

  6. I hate (ugly) mediocre teachers. I think brains should compensate the looks. Looks is also important to drive the students attention. Hahahaha (silly me)

  7. I love collecting rubber shoes (before).

  8. I'm still a kid. ;)

Ok. I can't think of anyone who has not done this meme yet. (or someone who would answer this)

PS: To anitokid and kuya drew, it was just a coincidence that both of you tagged me. You know what i'm talking about. ;)

Going back to Loleng's

Imagine having a paradise on top of the city. If you have been to Eden, most probably you passed by Loleng's. It's a garden resort operated and managed by Tower Inn in Davao. Anyway, this is the second time we went this year.

Shots from Loleng's

We had our team building which was facilitated by Miss Franie, one of the models I worked with during our FPS Photoshoot in Babusanta. It was fun and "healthy".

So that was the SMS I received yesterday. This morning, I woke up from my cellphone's beep. The person from DM** texted me and he's asking me if I could drop by his office this afternoon. Weeeee....I'm so excited. I'm hoping I could close the deal. Wish me luck.

Tocino-flavored bubble gum

I spent most of my day today with Pre. For those of you who do not know, this little girl (diagnosed for autism, just kiddin) is one of our Literary Editors. She asked me, after having our dinner at JFC (yes it's JFC), to redesign her Tocino-flavored Bubble Gum site. And so I did. I come up with this design. I only redesigned the page's header and I also did some CSS Tweaks. I guess it did not look that bad after all.

I can still remember the times (around 2000) when I am still ignorant in the existing of photo-editing applications. The only application I know is the MS Paint. Imagine me working my menus and buttons in MS Paint. The only "Formal" editing application I have used during these times is the Ulead Photo Express which is quite similar to the application used in the 'instant' Kodak Digital Print machine.

I was in 4th year when I first used a "real" professional photo editing tool. I bought this Macromedia MX Studio from the stalls in Ayala MRT Station. It was then that I was engaged in using Macromedia Firefox MX for my web and graphics design. (Improving ang graphics design ng bata). It was then also that I was able to grab several awards from different competitions involing web design in the country. (ehem ehem)

It was only in college that I find the use of Photoshop better.

Hutu Role, Tutsi Role

Mankind must put an end to war, or war will put an end to mankind.

J.F.K, 1961

We have been watching a film entitled Hotel Rwanda for the last two meetings in one of my Philosophy classes. Genocide was never part of my vocabulary or I just did not make it part of my vocabulary. I believed that such word would never exist in our world today.

Hotel Rwanda explicitly relayed the story of a guy named Paul in the Hutu-Tutsis conflict in Rowanda. The story described how thousands of Tutsis were deliberately killed during the conflict in Rowanda. Just imagine watching a exhibition of barbaric atrocities you can never think of (i dunno how to reconstruct this one, excuse me). How about seeing a car driving its way on a bumpy-road-with-piles-of-dead-flesh.

A lot of innocent people were involved in the 'war' but these people have no choice but to be part of the 'war'... they have no choice but to wait until the so called 'war' is over.

Engaging into a war does not give man any good. It only makes things worse.

Using mobile phone to view MS Power Point, works with any model

I've been digging the net of applications that I can use for viewing Microsoft Power Point presentations on my K608i . Some of my teachers provide us with power point presentations for handouts. I'm having problem in viewing this files from my phone since I don't have the necessary application needed. Printing the file would cost me a lot. Viewing it from my laptop is not that convenient either.

A couple of days ago, I realized how stupid I am not to learn it earlier before. I've been searching the internet for solutions. I did not realize that the solution in in Microsoft Power Point itself.

How does it work?

Simple. Microsoft Power Point has this option of saving the presentation into a JPEG File for every slide. Since most colored phones now can accommodate JPEG with less than 1 Mega-pixel dimension, it is very feasible to use this technique in viewing power point presentations. Follow the steps below.

  1. Open the MS Power Point file.
  2. Click on File > Save As and change the file type to JPEG (*.jpg, *.jpeg, *jpe)
  3. Create a bluetooth connection to transfer the saved slides (jpegs) into your phone
  4. Open the image files from the phone
  5. Use horizontally oriented full screen mode to view and browse the slides.

Now you may view your presentations on the go. I use this to study my lessons in the jeepney while on my way to school.

On Plagiarism, On fair blogging

What is plagiarism?

Plagiarism, like cheating, is an act that directly challenges the concept of intellectual honesty. It occurs when a person
  • hands in someone else's work as their own. This applies to direct presentation of someone else's work, a paraphrase of their work, or even direct inclusion of turns of phrase from someone else's writing. In these instances, the plagiarism is most likely intentional.

  • cites sources improperly. Again, this applies to direct quotations, paraphrased ideas, and even turns of phrase. In these instances, the plagiarism may well be unintentional, but it is still plagiarism nonetheless.
Source: http://www.2learn.ca/mapset/SafetyNet/plagiarism/

Are you one of them (plagiarists)? A lot of us might have neglected the ethics on writing (and blogging). Plagiarism violates the principles of intellectual honesty, whether intentional or not. I admit, I am one of them. As much as I want to avoid plagiarism, I can't avoid it. It's an indirect, unintentional and honest mistake (second condition). I guess most of us are. But what really annoyed me are those people who fall on the first condition, those who intentionally claimed one's idea and claimed it as theirs. Let's play the blogging game fair.

My laptop's power cord is broken

I have lots of stuff to do on my computer but I can't do it now. My laptop's power cord is broken since last Friday. I used it to make a report on Thursday evening but when I used it in school, it's broken. It won't charge. The adapter still works fine with Kim's power cord. I tried looking for a spare from the computer stores here but they are out of stock. Even Computer World where I bought my power cord has now available stocks.

I'll try my luck again tomorrow.

Nostalgia, my old web site

I missed my old website a lot. Eto yung natatanging website na na-maintain ko ng napakatagal not until last year when it was hacked by some German hackers.

Bawat buwan, may pinapakita kaming spoof or kung ano man (o sino man) ang maisipan kong pagtripan.
  • Naka-ilang version na rin kami. Paiba-iba ng design at kung anu-ano pa.
  • Maraming natutuwa sa mga post namin
  • at marami pang iba

Whoala!

Got Mud on my shoe

Another proof that I am addicted to blogging. I'm gonna post the terrible thing which happened to me this morning (kahit na ito ay makakasira sa aking reputation).

I am a normal engineering student. Late pumapasok ng klase (kasi minor ang first subject). It was eight in the morning, the usual time that I go to class. Umulan kagabi. That's a fact. Anyway, so yun. Dahil good citizen ako, hinintay ko munang mag-on ang 'Walk' sign.

I got tagged! Six weird things about me

Another meme from my friend Jehzeel. I promised him I would do this when I get home.

"Each player of this game starts with 6 weird things about himself or herself. People who get tagged need to write a blog entry of their own as well as state the rule clearly. In the end, you need to tag 6 people as well and list their names. Don’t forget to let them know they’ve been tagged!"

  1. I can't sleep when the lights are off. It's a bit ironic because most people can't sleep when the lights are on.
  2. I hate cats. It's a fact. I had this experience when I was a child (yeah, when I was a child). I went down to our dirty kitchen at night to drink some water. Everytime I look at the window, I see those pair of yellow eyes which gives me goose bumps. I also hate the way cats sound at night.
  3. I love mixing catchup and gravy when eating chicken at KFC.
  4. I talk a lot when I am with my friends but I am timid at home. (really?)
  5. I stare at people when riding a public jeepney.
  6. I love to walk then eat when I am depressed. I call it urban hike. I walk from our school to a mall in the downtown area where I find a place to eat. And mind you, I eat a lot when I am depressed.

Anyway, I am tagging the following people:
  1. Ayie Nobleza
  2. Padre Salvi
  3. Sintunado (Japboy)
  4. Kuya Arthur Yap
  5. Makoyskie
  6. Wonderboy

Davao Bloggers and SEOs meet Ms. Google (Earth?) Philippines

Yesterday morning, Kuya Blogie invited me to attend the coffee meeting at 51 Coffee Shop with Miss Aileen Apolo (Google Country Consultant for Philippines a.k.a Miss Google (earth?) Philippines). It was a nice avenue for meeting the people behind the blogs I read. Only a couple of people were present. But it was a fun experience though.

Several SEO's were also present last night. Most of them are from BHIPro. (I already know the person who posted irrelevant comments on Davao HotSpots hihihihi!)

P.S.
@ Kuya Andrew, Kuya Migs and Ate Ria: di po ako 12 years old. I'm 20.
@ Ate Ria: I know asar ka sa 'po' at 'opo' ko (po)....hehehe...mawawala rin yan soon..magalang (po) kasi ako in person. hehehe

Here are some of the photos of last night's get together. (photos courtesy of Miss Aileen's)
