Bobo bibo... pagkakamaling pinoy

Manong MMDA? Paliwanagan nyo po kami.

Bata goes to Manila (Part 3)

Wow, another post na naman? Medyo tinatamad na ako eh. Summary na lang.

First, pumunta kami ng Power Plant. Inikot lang namin whilst naghihintay ng oras. Sir Jess invited us for lunch so habang naghihintay, inikot muna namin yung Rockwell. After rockwell, we headed to a Korean Resto in Makati. We enjoyed the food. Tas first time ko ring makatikim ng Soju. After eating, we went to MOA to buy our pasalubong. Medyo minamadali kami ni Ate Shiela cause we're running out of time. We have to be at the airport at 2 o'clock. Just in time for the check-in. Kimmy and Mac was left in Manila since they have their own business dun. Kami naman, back to Davao and back to reality.

MOA. The last time I went here, ginagawa pa tong mall na 'to.

Bata goes to Manila (Part 2)

The second day was not that bad after all except for the rain showers which made our night wet. Hehehehe. I woke up 8 in the morning. We had trouble sleeping the previous night kasi naman sobrang init. Our bed was position behind a room divider and yung hangin na binubuga ng aircon won't reach our direction, same with the electric fan.

  • 8 A.M. We had our breakfast sa baba. We were waiting for Mac and Ate Shiela who went out to get the 'lost' luggage at the airport. Then may sinundo rin sila from Ateneo de Manila. Some conyo ateneans who want to meet us. Lol. Parang artista. hehehe... Ateneans from the South meets Ateneans from the North.
  • 11 A.M. Dumating sila Mac and Ate Shie so we started our plant tour. Nagvolunteer si Sir Jess, the owner of the press, to tour us sa buong planta. Astig. Marami na palang pinagbago since the last time i went there. May kitchen and sauna rin.
  • 12 NN We decided to head to tagaytay. Sa Tagaytay daw kami maglulunch. We were anticipating that we would arrive there after an hour. Thanks to the traffic at the toll gates which made our trip even longer. May Jollibee Drive Thru pa na parang hindi Drive Thru kasi you need to wait around 20 mins just to get your order. Nag-dine in na lang sana kami. So it's not good to wait that long just to get a 'pampalipas gutom' meal. (Same experienced happened to me last July at Ilo-ilo City where we waited 40 mins for our Drive Thru order to arrive. This was during our Boracay Escapade) So instead of waiting this long, we decided to wait till we get to Tagaytay. Para naman mapabilis ang travel.
  • 2 P.M. It was around this time when we had our 'lunch' in a restaurant in Tagaytay, Maganda yung site kasi sa likod ng resto, makikita yung foggy view ng Taal. Medyo drizzly na rin at this point. Nag-aantay na lang na babagsak ang clouds. This was the second time in Tagaytay. Medyo matagal na rin since the last time I've been there.
  • 4 P.M. After having lunch ang taking pics, we decided to head for Sta. Rosa, Laguna. Hehehe.
  • 5:30 P.M. EK na sa wakas. Medyo umaambon pero ok lang. Sayang ang opportunity. Hehehe.. (Again, it's not my first time here). Excited lahat. So we were obliged to buy 'Anti Rain Apparel' from their souvenir shops. Orange Raincoat yung binili ko. That's the only thing I bought from the park. So ayun, enjoy kahit umuulan. (The last time i went there, umulan din)
  • 9:00 P.M. We headed back to Manila for our supposed to be gimik. Kaso basa lahat from the wet and wild ride at the rapids. Since, all of us were tired (and wet), we decided not to pursue our gimik. We had dinner at the Bacolod Inasal (i think this one is similar with Mang Inasal, they used the same font) in Makati. After nun, we headed back to our place to rest. Pagod na lahat eh.

Bata goes to Manila (Part 1)

The press that would print this year's publication invited us to make an ocular check on their facilities in Sta. Ana, Manila. Ate Shiela, the press' marketing employee who handle's Kalasag's account made the necessary arrangements for the trip. This would be the nth time which I would visit the capital. I've been there a lot of times since I was in high school. Anyway, here are few of the things I did during the first day of the trip.

  • I packed my clothes the morning before we will leave for Manila. Everything is not done yet and I'm still in front of my computer doing internet stuff. I'm confident that I would be done packing before lunch time. (which I did)
  • After doing all the necessary preparations, I left home around 12noon and headed for Ateneo. The flight schedule is 2:30 so We should be at the airport 2 hours before that scheduled time. At this point, the tickets are not yet claimed from PAL's ticketing office. So while waiting for the other people, I asked Kim to go with me to the mall.
  • I bought a blue jacket from Bench which i thought might come handy during our trip.
  • After we left the mall, we headed back to the office to get our stuff before going to the airport
  • Macoy's group went ahead of us to get the ticket from the office. Since it's already late (after waiting a long time for the ticket and mac was not yet done rebooking some return flights), I decided to check-in the rest of the group.
  • We signed some survey forms (Courtesy of Intet) regarding the airport services and facilities.
  • Did some photo ops before embarking the aircraft.

    (2:15 p.m.)

  • We arrived at the NAIA Terminal 2 at around 4 in the afternoon. Unfortunately, something bad came up. We discovered that mac's bag was missing. Mac went berserk and everyone was nervous. (Not to mention the stomach sickness cris was experiencing). Since the bag couldn't be found, we asked the airport authorities to check Davao and call us if the luggage was indeed left in the airport.
  • We headed to the Cover and Pages compound in Silang Street in Sta.Ana, Manila.
  • After meeting the owner and his wife, we headed to our rooms and left our bags so we can have dinner.
  • We had our dinner at the Nanbantei of Tokyo located at the third floor in Greenbelt 3 in Makati. The food was great and so was the place.
  • After dinner, we headed to Ice Berg, a dessert and ice cream restaurant, just a couple of blocks away from Greenbelt3 where we had our dessert.
  • I met with Jehzeel who happened to be around the area stalking me. (Just kidding jehz)
  • We went back to the press' place to get some rest.

SMS Gateway, the Bata Edition

The SMS Gateway I made using JAVA, MySQL and PHP.

Kuya Dennis had me buy a bluetooth dongle yesterday which means that I have to continue working on my SMS Project. I started working on it last night. I used HyperTerminal first to try some AT Commands available for my Sony Ericsson K608i. I used the bluetooth service to create a virtual serial communications port on COM5. After issuing AT Commands into my phone, I decided to start working on the real application which would handle the AT Commands and other commands to be issued on external server connections.

I used the javax.comm library for Windows from Sun Micro. It's a JAVA Extension which handles communications on serial devices. I also used the mysql extension for Java. When my phone receives an SMS, the program I made sends an AT Command to check the newly arrived message and parses it into readable form. The decoded message is queried into a MySQL statement and executed. The sql is executed in an external server connection from my laptop to an internet host. I tried using my own server but it won't work. It takes time before the program gives a response and it always fail. So I tried using the host which Kuya Dennis provided me for the project which worked well except that it disconnects after hours of idle time.
So that's all folks. I'm almost done with my work. I'm done with the core. All I have to do now is do some editing to polish some flaws on my application. Heheheh...

P.S.
I might use this on my next Smart SWEEP Entry. hehhehe

We had a photoshoot the whole day at Talikud Island in Samal. We were invited by the Fanatic Photographers Society, an organization of professional and hobbyist photographers here in Davao.

Hehehe.. I enjoyed the experience. Eto yung first photoshoot ko. What makes it more exciting was working with excellent photographers.

Though I am an amateur in this field, di ko ri naman masasabing lame yung mga gawa ko. Most of them are good (for my standards).

Steroid rumor...

Pool party ata to. hehehe.

  10. Si Joyce ay bahista ng isang banda. (hindi ko alam to ah!)

Second day of work and I can't go home...

It's second day of work. The bluetooth dongle that i was ranting about yesterday is not yet available. I guess I have to get my self a new one from CDR-King. Kuya dennis gave me another task to work on. Hmm... I like the sound of it. PHP and Database. I need to provide a database of board exam passers from different fields from different years. Ahuh! the PRC Website is not working so I have to dig the web to find my sources. I found mine at http://www.manilastandardtoday.com/. It's good that they keep their own file in their website. I finished around 5p.m. 70,000 entries to my MySQL Database. Whoah! This is the biggest table that i have made so far (in terms of number of data rows).

I want to go home... My head aches badly, a side effect of brain work maybe. But I can't cause it's still raining. I wish it would stop now..

My first day of work (Part 2)

SMS > Phone > Bluetooth > COM > JAVA > MySQL > PHP > Web

This would be the things that I'm going to work on. Interfacing the web and mobile phones. This project is a challenge for me since i will be starting from scratch. I had to review my Java programming skills.

Interrupted (I'm trying to finish a layout. They need it tomorrow)

Anywho, as I was saying... I have to do some review on Java Programming. Though it was not so long ago since I last programmed in Java, I still find my self a bit dumb on this language. I just know the basics. And what we learned in school is an overstatement for basic. Urgh! Programming keeps on growing everyday and I was not able to cope with the changes.

For my project, I might be using my own phone. (Kuya Dennis has a sony ericsson phone which i think is still compatible with my k608i). I' might be needing my bluetooth dongle which happened to be broken now. I'm still waiting for the bluetooth dongle from kuya dens. Since I can't establish a COM Port between my phone and pc without the dongle, I made myself do some researching on JAVA Interfacing for COM Ports. I downloaded some codes, tutorials and the like. It was a boring thing to do.

Also, during my boring moments... i started working on the new encoding system for Kalasag. I'm still working on it now coz we'll be needing it on the first week of june. At least we could implement the system by then.

I left cerveo at 6pm. The first day wasn't bad at all. I'll be working on a project first hand. (and alone)

P.S. Did I mention that this project is part of the project study that I will be conducting next year? Lucky me!

Bata casts his vote

Weeee! I casted my first vote this morning. My grandma woke me early this morning. I didn't had breakfast, so after having a bath and changing clothes, we went to the school near our subdivision. It was just a tricyle ride from here. I was lucky cause last week, when the Commission on Election posted the precinct list, they have verified the polling precinct where I will be voting. I had to queue into line since the room can only accommodate around 12 people a time. It didn't took me long to wait. I entered the room and they asked for my number (my precinct number and my number on the list). I signed a paper and pressed a thumbmark just bellow my sig. I went to the seat not too far from the front desk. It took me around 5 minutes to finish my first election ballot. I took me a while to vote for a party list. I was having second thoughts on giving a vote for the party list of my high school classmate (*because of that pain in the neck chewable*). Since my family is in the coconut industry, so i opted for the party who deals with coconut economy issues. After doing my ballot, i headed for the person in charge of the ballot box. At first, I thought of having a picture of myself dropping the ballot in the ballot box. But I guess it's a bit embarrassing. Specially when a lot of people on queue are waiting for you to leave the room. So after the in-charge dropped the ballot (i was still hoping that i'd be the one who will drop the ballot), he placed an "indelible***" ink on my finger. I didn't wait for my family to finish. I just headed home. heheheh.

*** indelible ink story :

in·del·i·ble [in-del-uh-buhl] –adjective
1.making marks that cannot be erased, removed, or the like: indelible ink.
2.that cannot be eliminated, forgotten, changed, or the like: the indelible memories of war; the indelible influence of a great teacher.

They say indelible inks can't be removed for weeks. Huh? Mine just got off when i washed my finger with tap water. I scrubbed it with a towel from our fridge and most of the ink went off. The only ones left were those underneath my nail. I can vote again! yes I Can! hahahah!

400 What? HK What?

This year's biddng was far more different from the previous years. The press had learned a lot from their experience. The arousal of professional competition gave us more in return. The benefits and perks each press offered was incomparable to the those of the previous years.

Where would you want to go?

.... Hong Kong? Palawan? Bohol? where else would you want to go?

I might be flying to Manila next week. I do not know yet. A plant tour, but not the one that I have planned ages ago. Who knows, I might be even having my birthday in Hong Kong. :D I'm a one lucky kid.

Bata goes to barber

Nothing interesting happened on my barber experience. It's just the same as any other gupit-sessions in my life. heheheh

Tomorrow, we'd be having our Press bidding. San naman kaya gagala ang grupo ngayon? Manila, Baguio, Boracay, Camiguin...what's next? Hopefully we could find a press who could do the job sa parehong quality at halaga as that of last year. We had Midtown last year. But based on the selection trend, the organization tends to change press every year. This way, we are able to lessen the cost of the yearbook. The more the press competes among themselves to get us, the lesser the cost of the yearbook becomes. Isang advantage ng competition.

That's all for now i guess. :D

A Thought for Elections

A bulletin post from friendster...

while walking down the street one day, a
Philippine senator is tragically hit by
a truck and dies.

His soul arrives in heaven and is met by
St. Peter at the entrance.

"Welcome to heaven," says St. Peter.
"Before you settle in, it seems there is
a problem. We seldom see a high ranking
official around these parts, you see, so
we're not sure what to do with you."

"No problem, just let me in," says the
senator.

"Well, I'd like to, but I have orders
from higher up. What we'll do is have
you spend one day in hell and one in
heaven. Then you can choose where to
spend eternity."

"Really, I've made up my mind. I want to
be in heaven," says the senator.

"I'm sorry, but we have our rules."

And with that, St. Peter escorts him to
the elevator and he goes down, down,
down to hell.

The doors open and he finds himself in
the middle of a championship golf
course. In the distance is a clubhouse
and standing in front of it are all his
friends and other politicians who had
worked with him.

Everyone is very happy and in formal
evening dress. They run to greet him,
shake his hand, and reminisce about the
good times they had while getting rich
at the expense of the people.

They play a friendly game of golf and
then dined on lobster, caviar and
champagne. Also present was the devil,
who really is a very friendly guy, he
was having a good time dancing and
telling jokes.

They are all having such a good time
that before the senator realizes it, it
was time to go.

Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and
waves while the elevator rises...

The elevator goes up, up, up and the
door reopens in heaven where St. Peter
is waiting for him, "Now it's time to
visit heaven."

So, 24 hours pass with the senator
joining a group of contented souls
moving from cloud to cloud, playing the
harp and singing. They have a good time
and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours
have gone by and St. Peter returns.

"Well, then, you've spent a day in hell
and another in heaven. Now choose your
eternity."

The senator reflects for a minute, then
he answers: "Well, I would never have
said it before, I mean heaven has been
delightful, but I think I would be
better off in hell."

So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator
and he goes down, down, down to hell.
Now the doors of the elevator open and
he's in the middle of a barren land
covered with waste and garbage. He sees
all his friends, dressed in rags,
picking up the trash and putting it in
black bags as more trash falls from above.

The devil comes over to him and puts his
arm around his shoulders.

"I don't understand," stammers the senator.

"Yesterday I was here and there was a
golf course and a clubhouse, and we ate
lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and
danced and had a great time. Now there's
just a wasteland full of garbage and my
friends look miserable. What happened?"

The devil smiles at him and says,
"Yesterday we were
campaigning......Today, you voted!"

i will not tell you to vote wisely for
to do it wisely could mean a lot of
things. VOTE with a CONSCIENCE!
